Absent of theme parks, gridlock, and all other "unnatural" annoyances is Williams Arizona, gateway to the Grand Canyon. A mere 60 miles south of the canyon itself, it is the last place to stop before you well, drop (into the canyon that is)!
Williams Arizona, population 3500, elevation 7,000 feet, is surrounded by the breath taking Kaibab National Forest and the territorial Bill Williams Mountain area. The smallest destination on our tour... Fireball Run just could not drive by without stopping overnight to experience it for ourselves.
Historically, Williams was the last to have its section of Route 66 bypassed. As a result, Route 66 was officially decommissioned in 1985. Down but never out, historic Williams reincarnated as the ultimate motoring destination along America's most scenic drive.
This must stop destination is home to the Grand Canyon Railway. Since 1901, the Grand Canyon Railway continues to offer daily rail tours. Chugging along nearly 250,000 tourists annually, the railway offers some of the most unique nature travel packages available.
The Wild West returns nightly in Williams as banditos run amuck holding up banks and creating mayhem in the city- but fear not, your vehicles are safe here... as they will be protected by some of America's finest cowboys and lawmen.
Listed as one of the top places in America for a real Wild West experience, Williams has plenty to offer when it comes to majestic beauty and natural activities. The personality of a western village with the convenience of modern accommodations, you'll be greeted by charming boutiques, classic roadside diners, steak houses, and art galleries.
